Hello! The last couple of weeks I’ve been kind of disorganised, which is why my posting schedule has been off. But I’m taking this weekend to plan things out a bit better, so I can post better content more consistently! Anyways, I’m really excited about this Chocolate Shake because it’s simple, healthy, delicious, and EVERYTHING YOU NEED RIGHT NOW! It’s also very thick and creamy. With just three ingredients (one being water), you can make yourself a delicious treat that’s kind of like a frosty;))) Because of its healthy simplicity, it can be enjoyed any time of day. It would be great in the morning with some granola! Here’s the recipe;))
Chocolate Shake
Serves: 1
Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana, frozen in slices
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/4 cup + 3 tbsp water (or more if you’re a crazy person who likes a thin milkshake)
Directions:
Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender.
Enjoy!
Hope this Chocolate Shake brightens up your day a bit! Stay tuned for awesome posts coming your way this week;))
Hey guys! I got more reading done in March than in February, mostly because of all the extra time I had. Now I can go see the Emma movie, and I think that the story might be better brought to life on screen than on the page (I don’t even know who I am anymore because I’ve always believed that the book is better than the movie). Dear Evan Hansen was really moving and I liked it a lot, I definitely recommend reading it.
Even though I didn’t finish The Bone Houses this month like I wanted to, I still thought that I’d post My April Reading List. We’re falling on tough times in terms of reading material, and I’m preparing myself for a bit of a book drought. If you need advice on what to do during times like these, you can read my post on What to Do During A Book Drought by clicking the link;) On the other hand, this might be an awesome period of book rediscovery! It’s a great time for you to read a book that you’ve had on your shelf forever but never got to, or to rediscover some hidden book gems in those nooks and crannies in your house. I’m not quite sure when or where I’ll get some new supply, so I’m taking this advice myself and picking four books that I have at home already. One of them I’ve read already, but it was a long time ago and it can be a part of the book rediscovery process. It can be interesting sometimes to read a book that you haven’t read in awhile and find that it’s totally different than you remembered because your perspective and experiences have changed. Anyways, here’s my picks for April!
The Red Tent
In the process of cleaning out our office we pulled out this book, and my Mom suggested that I read it, so I’m planning on starting right after I finish The Bone Houses. It is written from the perspective of Dinah, who is a minor character in the bible. The author expands upon her story and describes being a woman in ancient times, and in the world of the Red Tent. This novel seems interesting and it has really great reviews, so I’m excited to read it. It’s available on Amazon, but I’m not sure how reliable they’re delivery service is right now.
Underground In Berlin
I got this book as a gift a while back, and started it, but never finished. So I guess now is a good time to finish it up;)) It tells the story of Marie Jalowicz Simon, and how she survived in Berlin during World War II as a Jew. This looks like it’ll be a pretty good read as well, as it’s told in Marie’s own voice and anything historical is a hit with me! This falls under my 2020 Reading List in the category of “is set during a war”.
Lord of the Flies
This is a “modern classic” that is about a group of boys who get stranded on an Island, and how they try to govern themselves and survive. This is a really cool concept, and should be super interesting. (I also found this one in our office).
Anne of Green Gables
I read this book a long time ago and remember it as a feel-good story that would be great for a time like this. It’s about a red-haired orphan named Anne who is taken in by two farmers in Avonlea, and all of the friends she makes and adventures she has as she grows up. If you haven’t read it, than I strongly suggest you do because it’s such a cute book! I also have the two books that come after this one in the series, so if this book drought extends further into the future I will be prepared!
That’s my list for April! I wish you luck in this time of uncertainty in the book world, and hope you discover some hidden treasures!
Hi guys! Since we all could use a little ray of sunshine right about now, I made these delicious Berry Banana Smoothie Pops that will transport you to a sunny beach😎😎 They’re delicious, refreshing and healthy, plus you only need four ingredients to make em! If you have a lot of frozen berries on hand, this is a great way to use them up. I’ve been loving frozen berries lately because you can incorporate them into so many things, and they’re delicious just warmed up and served with granola. I also used spinach and avocado in these pops, which add nutrients but aren’t detectable! What are you waiting for? Go make yourself some!
Berry Banana Smoothie Pops
Serves: Makes 7-8 pops
Total Time: 10 minutes to fill moulds, then freeze overnight
Ingredients:
1 small ripe banana
About 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen mixed berries
1 packed cup of spinach
1/2 a ripe avocado
1/2 cup water
Directions:
Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender. The smoothie should be pretty thick.
Spoon the smoothie into popsicle moulds, making sure not to over fill them. Stick in the popsicle sticks and place in the freezer overnight to freeze.
Run some warm water over the moulds to loosen up the popsicles before removing them from the moulds.
How are you guys doing? I’m hanging in there but starting to get a bit antsy. I wasn’t too bothered by the thought of staying at home when this all started, but after a couple of weeks I’m starting to miss the routine that I had when things were normal. It’s harder than I thought to go without friends, sports, and school (which I never thought I would say). Today I thought that I’d share some tips to help you get through this period of being stuck at home, so that you can stay productive and sane. Here they are:))
Try Not to Sleep In
I know that it can be tempting to sleep in till noon every morning when there’s no school, and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t do that on occasion, because this is a good time for your body to rest up. But getting up fairly early gives you a head start on the day and will help you to feel more productive than sleeping late. You’ll be able to get a whole lot more accomplished. I’m planning to get up a around 7-7:30 once Spring Break is over, which is still way later than I get up for school, but is still early enough to start school work and stuff.
Get Dressed
This is a big one because it puts you into the right mindset for the day ahead. If you take the time in the morning to put proper clothes on, you’ll probably get more done than if you stay in your pyjamas. You can even do our hair and makeup if you want, because the more you feel like you’re actually going to school or going out somewhere will help with productivity.
Find a Project
This is probably the best tip that I can give you. Finding a project, whether it be school work, something creative or something that you’ve been wanting to do for a while gives purpose to your day. Getting excited about something that you’re doing is great because it gives you something to look forward to doing each day. Here’s a list of things that you can work on:
Reading a book (one of my faves;))
Cooking/Baking
Painting
Learning something (you can literally learn about anything online through YouTube or articles)
Languages (I’m using an app called DuoLingo to learn a couple extra languages, and practice French for school)
Practice sports (It can be hard to do this in your house, but there are lots of sports skills that can be practiced in tight quarters. If you definitely can’t practice anything, watch some YouTube videos on how to become a better player)
Organize or clean out your room (this sounds sucky but I did it the other day and it felt SOOO good to get rid of all the junk in there)
Do a big puzzle
These are just a few ideas but there are TONS more things that can keep you busy during this time.
Go Outside
Getting some fresh air is great for your mental health allows you to feel less trapped. No one wants to stay inside their house all day every day. I like to take my dog for walks, but going sledding or building snowmen or just sitting outside somewhere are all great options.
Stay Active
Staying active is important to get those endorphins flowing! It also makes you feel great:))) You can do a workout, some yoga, have a dance party, or go for a walk or run.
I really hope these tips help you out! We’ll all get through this together;)) Stay safe everyone;)
Hey there! I’m starting to feel a bit of cabin fever, but I’m trying to keep busy and positive;) Cooking is a really great way to do that, and today I have a great recipe that’s freezable and super versatile. These spiced carrot falafel are super flavourful and easy to make! I like eating them with hummus in their own or in bowls, and they’d also be great in wraps or in pasta dishes. Maybe I could even make a sandwich with them… veggie sandwiches are amazing😍😍 Hope you like this recipe!!
Spiced Carrot Falafel
Serves: Makes 12 falafel
Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 clove of garlic, minced
2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded carrots
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a blender or food processor, blend the chickpeas, garlic and all of the spices until smooth and combined.
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the shredded carrots.
Scoop out a tablespoon of the falafel mixture and form into a flat disc, and place onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat until you have about 12-15 falafels.
Place the falafels in the oven, and let bake for 15 minutes before removing the pan and flipping them over. Bake for another 15-20 minutes on the other side.
Remove the pan from the oven and let the falafel cool completely before enjoying;)
I wrote a list in my bullet journal of ways to keep busy during this time, and so I’ll try to share it in my Instagram page soon;) For now, stay safe and hang in there!
