May 2020 Bullet Journal Set-Up

Hello! I can’t believe that it’s almost May. The first couple of weeks of self-isolation went super slow, but now I feel like the days are just flying by. But it still felt like it took me FOREVER to figure out a theme for this month. I just couldn’t nail one down! There are so many options out there but none of them felt right, you know? Plus, this month I wanted to do something a bit outside my comfort zone and more drawing-heavy, because I have so much time to experiment. So after a zillion hours on Pinterest and another zillion hours staring at a blank page, I decided to go for this European alleyway look. I know that a lot of people are stuck in their apartments right now, and it’s a little bit representative of that. But I also just love all the little details and how much doodling is involved. I can’t remember the last time I did a cover page where the whole thing was coloured in!

I tried lots of other new layouts and pages this month too, and I’m super excited to be sharing them! I haven’t had the chance to experiment with my bullet journal for a long time, so it’s nice to get super creative with it. Hope you like my spreads and find some quarantine inspiration in them!

My title page took a loooong time to draw, but it was totally worth it! I love how bright it is and how it looks so doodle-y. The colours work really well together;) The two buildings give a really good sense of perspective, and I included some cute lanterns in there too. And yes, I’m using calligraphy again, but I’m trying to do a different style, alright? My quote for May is “Always Look On The Bright Side”, which is perfect for what’s going on right now.

I have literally nothing coming up in my calendar, so I decided to make it only one page this month. That meant that on the other page I have room to write down events, tasks, goals, and my monthly focus (which I haven’t come up with yet but will let you know what it is) I also drew another building and some window doodles. By the way, the markers I used this month were some zebra mildliners, one yellow crayola supertip, my tombow fudenoske brush pen, and my micron fineliners.

My trackers are also really different this month! I made them horizontal instead of vertical. For my mood and productivity trackers I’ll do a line graph like I’ve been doing for the past couple of months, but I think I’ll try out a bar graph for my sleep tracker. My sleep tracker is a great tool for right now, because my sleep schedule is getting a little out of whack;) I gave up on tracking my water intake because it wasn’t helping me out at all. On the side, I also put in a fitness tracker so that I can see what kind of exercise that I’ve been doing. I finished this spread with another building doodle and washi tape!

I wrote the title for my gratitude tracker in the middle of the spread just to switch things up a bit. On the opposite page I have a spread to track which Crash Course episodes I’ve watched. Crash Course is a really great YouTube channel that has awesome and engaging courses on so many subjects! During quarantine I want to watch a bunch of them, and so I kind of geeked out a bit with this page. You should totally check these videos out if you’ve got nothing to do!

Finally, my first weekly spread of the month. I drew a bunch of buildings and another quote. You can’t really tell from this picture but I messed up writing the days of the week and had to cover it with some white paper, which definitely tested my patience! Anyways, I think it turned out good.

I absolutley love my May Set-Up! It’s so different from what I’ve done before, and I’m excited to fill in all of my trackers. See you Wednesday with an awesome recipe!

Bullet Journaling Supplies

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share the supplies I use for bullet journaling. I’ve mentioned in all of my bullet journaling posts that you don’t need any special equipment to start bullet journaling; just a journal and a pen. But these are all of the supplies I use to journal, as I feel that they are some of the basics and have served me well so far!

Let’s start with my journal;) I’m currently using the Leuchttrum 1917, which I used last year as well. It’s a great size, and has a back pocket. I also love the number of pages it has- 251- which means I get a lot of pages to use per month! This is a great journal for when you’re first starting out as well, as it’s only around $25.

Next up are the fine liners that I use. These are great for outlining things, lettering and drawing borders for calendars and other spreads. I got mine in a three pack; one has a 0.1 mm tip, one has a 0.3 mm tip, and one has a 0.5 mm tip. I get about a year of use out of each set, so they’re great quality;)

Here are the brush pens that I use- I’d say that these are my most important pens. They’re the perfect size for a bullet journal, and can be used for so many different kinds of lettering! One is hard tipped and one is soft tipped, so you can choose the one that you prefer while doing calligraphy.

I got this white gel pen over Christmas! It’s not necessary, but I really love it because it’s great for drop shadows and looks amazing over a black background. I used it in my 2020 set up a lot.

These Crayola Super Tips are some other markers that I use quite a bit. They’re cheap and are so versatile; they can be used for calligraphy, colouring and outlining.

These Zebra Mildliners are useful, but I don’t use them as often as some of my other supplies. They work well for highlighting and sometimes lettering.

I have lots of gel pens that I use also! Mostly for colour coding my tasks, but this month I’m using this gold gel pen a lot.

I recently started using this glue-tape and I love it- it’s super convenient for gluing things down in your journal. I also love washi tapes. This black and white one is my favourite!

That’s all of my favourite supplies! Most of it can be found on Amazon, and isn’t too expensive. See you on Wednesday!

Why I Journal plus 10 Journaling Prompts

Hi guys;) I’m this post I wanted to share why I journal, and I don’t mean bullet journaling. I mean sitting down and writing about how you feel and what’s going on in your life.

Journaling really helps me to know where I’m at. Releasing all of the thoughts in my head onto paper kind of organizes my mind and makes me reflect on what’s going on and what my next steps should be.

In my bullet journal I tend to do two reflections per month; one in the middle of the month and one at the end of the month. Some people journal every day or every week, but I’ve found that that’s what works for me. You should journal whenever you feel overwhelmed or you feel like you need to reflect on anything. I usually just write down whatever’s in my head at the moment, but sometimes I need a little nudge to get me started. Down below are ten journal prompts that you can use. Remember, like bullet journaling, there’s no right or wrong way to journal. Write whatever you need to, whenever you need to.

  1. How are you feeling right now? Why are you feeling this way?
  2. What could you do to make yourself feel better?
  3. What are three things that you’re grateful for in this moment?
  4. List five things that you love about yourself.
  5. Think ahead to the person you want to become in five years. If that person saw you now, what do you think they would say? What can you do right now to become that person?
  6. Make a list of the things that make you happy.
  7. In the past week, what have you done for others? What have you done for yourself? Which do you need to do more of?
  8. What can you improve on in your life right now? What are some things you’re doing right?
  9. What is something that you could do to bring you closer to your goals? Write something for today, this week, this month and this year.
  10. What’s something to look forward to in your life?

I hope that you find these prompts helpful and that you enjoy journaling. For me it’s a really helpful tool to reflect on my life. See you all next week!
