Winter Reading List

Last week I finished off my fall reading list- and I enjoyed it SO MUCH! The three books on it were each unique and fun reads. First, I finished the Three Dark Crowns series by reading Five Dark Fates, which I think is a suitable ending to an intriguing story. All loose ends are tied up and all questions are answered. The second book that I read was House of Salt and Sorrows. It was an enjoyable read and is full of twists and turns that will definitely keep you guessing. The story wasn’t like what I expected it would be which was a little disappointing, and I know that sounds weird because usually you want a book full of surprises, but I kind of had it in my head how I wanted it to go and had made some inferences of my own, so that’s why I was let down. Overall though, it’s a great read. The Book Thief was the last novel on my list, and I absolutely loved it! It made me cry, and few other books have had that effect on me. It’s written from a unique perspective and makes you fall in love with it’s characters. I definitely recommend reading it if you haven’t already.

Onto this season’s list! On it are some new releases and some older ones, and they’re from all different genres. This list might help you with what to ask for for Christmas;)) Enjoy your holiday reading!

My Winter Reading List

The Beautiful

First up is The Beautiful. I actually just started this book a few days ago, and am enjoying it so far. It’s about a girl named Celine who comes to New Orleans from France in the late 1800’s to start a new life, and becomes involved with a sort of mysterious society. Murders begin to occur in the city, and Celine begins to suspect the society’s attractive leader. After a third murder, the killer sets their sights on Celine and she tries to discover them herself, only to become further involved in a battle between ancient dark forces. This book has been really hyped up on Instagram lately, so I’m hoping it lives up to all of the praise it’s getting! Also, who doesn’t love to curl up by the fire and read a good book about murder?

Lion

Lion was adapted into a film in 2016, and I remember that it was a big deal and got crazy good reviews. Movies aren’t usually as good as their novel counterparts, so if Lion the movie is good, then Lion the book has to be amazing. I got this novel as a gift recently and am excited to read it after The Beautiful. It’s about a boy living in India who gets lost on a train one day, ends up living in Australia, then finds his way back home twenty-five years later. The story sounds incredible, and I’m sure it will be.

Little Women

I’d like to read Little Women because I feel like it’s just one of those classic must-reads, you know? There’s also a Little Women movie coming out with Emma Watson (who I love), so I’d like to read the book before seeing it. I think this book is sort of like Anne of Green Gables or Little House on the Prairie; it’s a coming of age story about four girls that takes place in the 1860’s.

One of Us Is Next

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a good picture for this one, but it’s Karen McManus’ third murder mystery novel and is the sequel to One of Us Is Lying. It takes place one year after the incidents mentioned in the first novel, and includes a dangerous game of truth or dare which leads to the spilling of dark secrets and crazy taunts. This book doesn’t actually come out until January 7th of the new year, but I’m really excited for the release date! In the meantime you should check out One of Us Is Lying and Two Can Keep a Secret, McManus’ other novels of the same genre.

My Fall Reading List

Hello;)) As the weather starts getting cooler, I’m sure that we’re all feeling more inclined to snuggle under a pile of blankets and pick up a good book. I don’t know which I like better- reading while sun tanning or reading next to a fire while it’s raining outside? Today I have the list of three books that I’d like to read this fall. Sadly with school starting I find that I only have time to read before bed, but hopefully these are the kind of books that make you put everything else aside in order to devour them. I hope that this list give you a little bit of reading inspiration;)

My Fall Reading List

Five Dark Fates

This is the last book in the Three Dark Queens series, which I started reading a little while ago. The first book centers around triplets who must fight to the death in order to claim the throne. It’s a pretty good series if you’re into fantasy books and political scheming, and I’m excited to finish it off.

House of Salt and Sorrows

This novel is a play on The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but with a dark twist. Annaleigh lives with her father, stepmother, and eleven sisters. When four of her sisters die due to tragic accidents, she starts trying to unravel the “curse” that has fallen on her family. The other girls have been sneaking off every night to dance at fancy balls, and she doesn’t know whether that has a connection to the deaths. This book has great reviews and I hope that it’s a winner.

The Book Thief

I’m excited to read this one because I think that it’s a classic. During WWII, a girl named Liesel is taken in by a foster family and soon falls in love with reading. She begins saving books from Nazi book-burnings, and, when her family shelters a Jew, sharing them with him. This should be both an intense and interesting read.

So yeah, I’m going to break out my Chapter’s gift cards and start crushing these novels! Hope you had a good weekend and I’ll see you Wednesday.

Summer 2019 Reading List

Hi! Hope everyone’s summer is going well;) I still haven’t finished The Lord of the Rings, but I have some books lined up that I want to read after I’m done, so I’ll share them with you guys today. There’s a bit of a mix of genres on this list, as well as some heavier reads. I know that I only have three titles picked out so far, but if I finish them and start reading other books then I’ll definitely let you guys know which ones those are.

I know that a lot of people don’t like reading unless they have to, but reading is awesome in every way. It’s pretty much like a portal into thousands of different worlds, worlds that you create using your imagination. Plus, it makes you smarter! Do you know how many weird words I’ve found out about while reading The Lord of the Rings? So I really hope that you guys give reading a try this summer. You just need to find the right book. To help you out with that, here’s my reading list for Summer 2019!

1. Sherwood

This novel centres around Marian, Robin Hood’s fiancé. When Robin dies, Marian decides to take his place as the protector of the village of Locksley by disguising herself in his green cloak. It focuses around the idea of being your own hero. After reading The Lord of the Rings, in which I think there are a total of about four women mentioned in the whole series, I thought it would be nice to read a novel with a strong female lead. The storyline also seems less complex than the books I’ve been reading recently, so I think it will be a fun, relaxing summer read;)

2. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

After giving my brain a short break by reading Sherwood, I will then put it to work again by picking up Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It follows a father and son on a motorcycle trip across the American Northwest. Along the way, they discover more about life and it’s “fundamental questions”, whatever that’s supposed to mean. This looks like it should be an interesting read, because I’m into philosophy and learning about living your best life. However, I’m hoping that it doesn’t get too dry. If it does, I might just stop reading it and move on to the next book on my list.

3. The Winner Stands Alone

This book is written by Paulo Coelho, who also wrote the alchemist, a novel that you should definitely read if you haven’t already. The Winner Stands Alone takes place at Cannes Film Festival, and follows five people who are looking to acquire fame and fortune, things that the world values as important. The main idea is that you should follow your own dreams, not those that are given to you by society. I think that this is a really important concept, and so I’m excited to see where this book goes.

Spring Reading List

Hi everyone! I had a really busy weekend so I wasn’t able to post, but today I wanted to update you on my spring reading list.

I recently finished reading The Hobbit for the second time, and have started The Fellowship of the Ring, the first book in the Lord of the Rings series. My goal is to finish the trilogy by the end of June. It’s a bit slow going, as the books are a bit dry in some parts, but I’m really enjoying the first book so far.

February Reading List (No Fantasy)

Hello! I got a bunch of Chapters gift cards over Christmas, which means that It’s time for me to replenish my stock of reading material. Today I’ll share three books that I’m either currently reading or want to read in February. I’m trying to branch out my book selections a little bit- I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy, which I love, but I feel like I need something different. This list isn’t numbered because I want to read these books in no particular order. I hope that this post gives you some good book ideas!

They Both Die At The End

I’m currently reading this book and I have to say that it’s pretty good so far. It’s about two teenage boys that get a call saying they’re going to die by the end of the day. They don’t know when or how its going to happen, only that it will. Through an app they meet up with each other and basically go out to make the most of their “End Day”. The story is well written and jumps between different perspectives, which makes it more interesting, and is also a bit emotional because these boys have to say their last goodbyes. But above all, I love it because of it’s message- live everyday like it’s your last.

On The Come Up

This is Angie Thomas’s second novel. Her first, The Hate U Give, was a great read and I suggest that you check it out if you haven’t already. Anyways, On The Come Up is about a girl whose father was an amazing rapper, and she wants to become just like him. However, her family is going through some tough times, and now she needs to make it big in order to help them out. I’d like to read this book because I loved The Hate U Give, and it sounds like an inspiring story. Plus, it’s not fantasy!

Two Can Keep A Secret

This is another book from an author whose first book I’ve read. One Of Us Is Lying is a mystery from Karen M. McManus. Two Can Keep A Secret is about a girl named Ellery who goes to live with her grandmother in Echo Ridge, and a boy named Malcolm whose brother was the prime suspect in a murder in Echo Ridge. Then new threats come up, a girl disappears, and the two teens have to find out what happened. I’ve been sucked into the world of mystery novels after reading One Of Us Is Lying and Paper Towns, so I’m excited to read this!

So yeah! That’s what I’ll be reading this month;) If I get through those and start another book, I’ll let you guys know what that book is. Happy Reading!
