3 Overnight Oatmeal Recipes to Try This Summer

Hi there! For me, summer is a great time to try new recipes and make a mental note to implement them in my routine for the rest of the year. So I thought that I would try out a few new overnight oatmeal recipes. Overnight Oatmeal is just what it sounds like- oatmeal made overnight by soaking the oats in milk. This means that it’s the perfect make-ahead option for busy mornings. If you have something against oatmeal, don’t worry. The texture of these oats is almost completely different than that of regular oatmeal, and there’s a lot more flavour. I used to have peanut butter banana overnight oatmeal for breakfast every morning- and honestly, I don’t know why I stopped. When something is this delicious and easy to make, how can you go wrong? Here are three of my favourite overnight oatmeal recipes.

  1. Peanut Butter Banana

Yes, PB and Banana strikes again! This is probably my favourite overnight oatmeal recipe of all time. However, if you’re not into the whole peanut butter thing, you can always use Homemade Almond Butter as a replacement, or just leave the nut butter out altogether. Anyway you make it, this recipe is a winner. Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice
  • 1/2 a banana, mashed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbs peanut (or any nut) butter, plus additional for garnish

Directions:

  1. Mash the Banana in a small bowl.
  2. Mix in the nut butter until combined.
  3. Stir in all of the other ingredients.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Uncover in the morning, top with additional nut butter, and enjoy!

2. Stone Fruit Crumble

A stone fruit is a fruit that has a pit in it, so cherries, peaches, nectarines and plums all count. I used plums in my oatmeal, but feel free to use any stone fruit you like.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 a stone fruit, sliced thinly

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients above in a small bowl except for the stone fruit until combined.
  2. Place the sliced stone fruit on top of the mixture.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill overnight.
  4. Remove the wrap in the morning and enjoy!

3. Double Chocolate

This is for all you chocolate lovers out there! Which I’m pretty sure is all of us. This recipe has chocolate in the actual oatmeal itself, and if you want you can top it with some chocolate chips for extra chocolateyness (which should be a word so I’m making it one).

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice
  • 1 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 a banana, mashed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Chocolate chips or nut butter for topping

Directions:

  1. Mash the banana in a small bowl.
  2. Mix in all of the other ingredients except for the garnish.
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight.
  4. Uncover, top with your choice of garnish, and enjoy.

Cocoa Power Smoothie

Hey everybody! As promised, I’m back with another post! Today I made a “Cocoa Power Smoothie” that’s full of delicious ingredients to give you an energy boost before your after-school activities. I added some cocoa powder for a little bit of chocolatey taste without any added sugar! Here’s the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 small bananas
  • 1cup avocado (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups milk (preferably almond, but any kind will work)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Directions:

  1. Put all of the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, starting on a low speed and gradually raising the speed.
  3. Enjoy!

This smoothie can be enjoyed right away, or stored in the fridge for a few days after making it. Drink some for breakfast, as a snack, or even use it in a Greek Yogurt Smoothie Bowl! Let me know if you like this recipe in the comments, and I’ll come up with more in the future:)

There’s no added sugar or other unwanted additives with names so long that you can’t pronounce ( I would name a few but I don’t think that I can spell any of them right), and also tastes delicious! Thanks to Gimme Delicious at gimmedelicious.com for this recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups frozen berries
  • 1/2 cup Vanilla or Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of Honey
  • Dash of vanilla
  • A bit of lemon juice (optional)

Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Eat is straight from the blender, or put it in the freezer for a bit for a harder alternative.
  4. That’s it!

So simple and so delicious! I haven’t tried it with different frozen fruits, but I’m sure it would work just as well. Let me know if you’ve tried any!

Healthy Cinnamon Dried Apples

Hey guys! I’m super sorry about not posting for awhile- a horrible way to start off 2018, I know. Hopefully I can make it up to you with these delicious dried apples- they’re one of my favourite snacks! With no added sugar and plenty of apple-pie flavour, they’re sure to please any sweet-tooth while providing you with a healthy snack. Lets get into the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 large apples
  • As much cinnamon as you want!

Directions:

  • Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Wash your apples
  • Slice the apples. This is the tricky part, because you want to get the thickness just right. If you want your apples to be super crispy, since the very thin, but if you would like them a bit chewier leave them thicker. If its you’re first time making this recipe, I suggest that you do a few thin and a few thick to see what you like best.img_8533
  • Place the apples on a parchment-covered baking sheet so that they don’t stick to the pan.
  • Now it’s time for the cinnamon! Sprinkle some on each since and then rub it around with your finger for an even coating. If you’re not a big fan of cinnamon, you can leave it off, but it really adds to the flavour of the apples.
  • Bake the apples for about 2 hours. About halfway through, take out the pan and flip the slices over so that you can put some more cinnamon on the other side. Again, if you would prefer to leave the cinnamon off, you can, but you still need to flip the apples.
  • Take out of the oven and enjoy! Store these in an airtight container in the fridge.

That’s all! Super simple and super delicious. I promise that there will be 2 more pots this week- a bookish one and a crafty one! Enjoy these apples and I’ll see you then!!
