December Bullet Journal Set-Up

Hey guys! I’ve had some people asking why I haven’t posted my December Bullet Journal Set-Up yet- I’ve been either super busy or super lazy. Sorry about that. But today I have the time and motivation to share my December layouts with you! This month my theme is Elf, the movie with Will Ferrel. It’s my all time favourite Christmas movie, and I thought that there’s a lot of fun stuff I can do with it bullet journal wise! Hope you guys like my spreads;)

TITLE PAGE

My title page is cute but simple: a drawing of Buddy the elf (I decided not to include his face because I couldn’t draw a decent human face if my life depended on it) and on the opposite page I drew his hat with a quote from the movie that says, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear”. That’s another great thing about this theme- there are so many awesome quotes that I can use!

CALENDAR

This is my monthly calendar layout. Every time I write the word calendar I second-guess the placement of the e and the a. Anyways, here I drew sort of a north pole scene with snow and a little log house. I also included Leon the snowman and Mr. Narwhal from the movie. Oh, and I decided not to make a sixth row in this calendar because I needed the room for other stuff. Instead, the last Monday of the month is split into two.

MOOD, HABITS, GIFT LIST and GRATITUDE

I had some problems with this page. At first I was going to do something really cool with the mood tracker, but I just couldn’t figure out the logistics. So I did what I call a mood line- I’ll just write down the date somewhere on the line everyday. Kind of like a number line. Did I just compare Bullet Journaling to math? Ugh. On the opposite page, I have my gratitude spread (which is the same as always) and a handy dandy gift list. Which will be useful when I actually figure out what I’m going to get for people.

WEEKLY SPREAD

This is my first weekly spread. Nothing to fancy, I just had a bit of fun with the quote on the side. I always leave room to write down any homework or tests coming up. If any of my next weeklies look cool I’ll tweet them out for you guys. (@mydayisbooked)

And that’s December! Just to let you know, though, I’m super excited for the end of this month so that I can start on my spreads for the New Year. I might’ve started planning them in September. But I’ll post some super cool stuff before then, too. See ya!

DIY No-Candy Advent Calendar

Today is the one year anniversary of mydayisbooked.com! I have a super neat post to share with you guys today, but first I want to thank everyone who has supported and followed my blog in the past year! You guys are awesome:)

I started making this advent calendar a few years ago, and I really love it. Instead of getting a candy everyday, you have to complete an act of kindness or treat yourself to a favourite winter activity. This is a great concept because it invokes the true spirit of Christmas- giving! You make can this calendar as fancy or as minimalistic as you like; I love to get super creative with it! Down below I have laid out the instructions and materials that you’ll need, as well as some ideas to get you started;)

DIY No-Candy Advent Calendar

Materials

  • 25- 31 envelopes (I used ones that are about 16.5 by 9 cm, but any size works)
  • 25-31 index cards (or cut up pieces of card stock)
  • markers, crayons, stickers, pens, anything you need to decorate your calendar!

Directions:

  1. Number the envelopes from 1-25 (or 31, depending on how many days you want your advent calendar to cover) and decorate them however you want! I drew a kind of christmasy drawing in the corner of each of mine, which took a little while, but it’s totally worth it! **You can reuse the envelopes from year to year to save time**

2. Once your envelopes are finished, take out your pieces of card stock or index cards. On each one, write an act of kindness or winter activity that you want to do in December. Here are 25 ideas that you can use in your calendar:

  • Call your grandparents
  • Bake cookies
  • Build a snowman
  • Write 5 nice comments on social media
  • Make a gingerbread house
  • Shovel your neighbour’s driveway
  • Leave a nice note for someone
  • Compliment someone who you wouldn’t usually talk to
  • Donate money to a Christmas charity
  • Give food to a food bank
  • Make Christmas ornaments
  • Send a letter to a friend, wishing them a merry Christmas
  • Do some extra chores around the house
  • Express gratitude to 5 different people
  • Watch your favourite Christmas movie
  • Make a gift for your teacher or a friend
  • Wear your cosiest sweater
  • Make a holiday playlist
  • Go ice skating
  • Make your favourite breakfast
  • Bake a new recipe
  • Look at Christmas lights
  • Make treats for your pet
  • Make hot chocolate
  • Read before the fire (my personal favourite!)

3. Fold each piece of card stock in half and spread them out randomly so that you don’t know which activity is written on each one. Then put one in each envelope and seal it. This way, the activity that you do each day will be a surprise. If you know that you’ll only have time to do a certain thing on the weekend, then you can make a pile of weekend activities and fill your weekend envelopes from that pile. Also, I like to use sticky tack and hang each envelope on my wall for a cool Christmas decoration, but you can display them however you’d like.

Spread out the pieces of card stock
Place each one inside an envelope

I hope that you enjoy this calendar throughout December! It’s super fun and easy to make and spreads lots of holiday cheer;) Thanks agin for making my first year of blogging so awesome!

November Bullet Journal Set-Up

I can’t believe it’s November already! This year is just flying by……. on the 22nd it will be the first anniversary of MyDayIsBooked.com! But first things first; I need to set-up my bullet journal so I can plan out my month. For November I’m going with a tea and book theme, because when I think of fall I think of curling up with a hot mug of tea and a good book. I added some leaves in there too for extra fallness (fallness in now a word). There are some changes within a few of my spreads because I want to so some experimenting, but I absolutely looooooovvvvvveeee how they turned out. So scroll down and take a peek already!

My accent colours for this month are light purple and grey. On my title page I have doodles of falling leaves, steaming mugs of tea, and a couple of books. There are some purple and grey dots just to fill in the empty spaces. I thought that my quote for this month is really cute; “leaves are falling, books are calling”, although books are always calling, so…….. Anyways, these pages look really good, except for the fact that I didn’t  search up how to draw a book before I drew the big book that I wrote November on, and it doesn’t look the best. Whatever. It’s not like I want to smack myself on the forehead every time I look at it or anything.

One of my favourite calendar layouts yet! Just lots of doodles and dots. I’m really proud of how my calligraphy skills are coming along though! Also, I starting adding drop shadows to a lot of my drawings, and it gives a really cool effect. You’re going to notice a lot of black boxes with silver writing throughout my spreads this month, and this is because I made a lot of mistakes. Basically anywhere I messed up, I drew over it in black and then rewrote whatever needed rewriting in silver. #BulletJournalHacks

Here are all of my trackers for this month. For my habit tracker, I just reverted back to an old classic; numbering off thirty squares, and the filling them in if I did a particular habit that day. My mood tracker is a bit different from usual though, it’s more like a chart. Each day I’ll draw a dot in the square that corresponds to my mood. I don’t know if you can see it, but at the bottom of the page there’s a legend with different little faces; to the right is happy and to the left is not so happy. I’m connecting the dots so it looks like a graph of sorts. You may have realized that I didn’t include a space to plan my blog posts this month, and this is because I found that I don’t really use it all that much. So I just included another book quote to fill that empty space.

My first weekly spread has a bit of a scrapbookish feel to it. This is all due to the card stock I glued in there. I also printed of a black and white photo of leaves falling off of trees, which I love. Since school has started, I’ve also been including a place to write down homework that is due and tests that are coming up, so that I can see everything that I need to do in one place. The rest of this spread is pretty self-explanatory.

There we go! Now I can start planning my month.Hopefully you found my spreads inspiring! Have a great week;)

October Bullet Journal Set-Up

Hello! I wanted to do a theme that was Halloweenish for this month, but that wasn’t straight up ghosts and jack o’ lanterns (I have nothing against ghosts and jack o’ lanterns, I just didn’t feel like drawing them for a whole month). So I finally decided on- drumroll please……. a Harry Potter theme! This theme took me a really long time to do, but it was definitely a labour of love, mostly because there are so many possibilities with Harry Potter and it’s one of my favourite book series of all time!  And I know that I said that my September spreads were my favourite of all time; not anymore! So, without further ado, let’s get into my October Bullet journal Set-Up!

img_9529

I stuck to the layout that I’ve been doing for the past few months for my title page- doodles and the name of the month on one side, and a quote on the other. This month I drew Hogwarts- which actually wasn’t as hard as it looks! Pinterest has a lot of Harry Potter themed doodles that you can reference (my fancy word for copy). For my quote I wrote one that I love from Albus Dumbledore aka JK Rowling; “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.”.  All in all, I think that these pages turned out great!

Now on to my October calendar. I did this one Platform 9 3/4 style! There’s a simple brick background, Harry Potter style lettering, a drawing of the Hogwarts Express, and another JK Rowling quote: “Best to do it at a bit of a run if you’re nervous.” which I love because it totally applies to just life in general.

For my habit and mood trackers, I decided to have some fun. Here we have the Habit House Cup, and a Snitch mood tracker! I have four habit categories; physical, mental, organization, and other, and they each represent a Hogwarts House. I have about four habits in each category, and different amounts of points are assigned to every one. So, for example, if I made my bed one day, I would draw one little gem inside the organization category (Slytherin), representing one House point. At the end of the month, I’ll be able to see which House “won” with the most points, and which House “lost” with the least house points. My mood tracker is a bit simpler; each feather on the wings represents a day of the month, and I’ll colour them in according to my mood and the legend on the side.

Here’s my gratitude tracker, along with a space for blog post planning at the bottom of the page. For each day in October, I drew a little envelope, where I’ll write something that I’m grateful for each day in green ink (that’s what Hogwarts uses in the books). In the center there’s an owl with another envelope in it’s mouth. My blog ideas section is made to look like an old piece of parchment, with a drawing of a quill and ink pot on the side.

As for my first couple of weekly spreads, they’re pretty self-explanatory, so I’ll let you take a look at them yourselves….

Alrighty then! I hoped you liked and felt inspired by my October Bullet Journal Set-Up! I had so much fun with it and couldn’t wait to share it with you guys. Buy for now!

September Bullet Journal Set-up

Hi there! This month I can’t wait to show you my bullet journal spread! I’ve decided to go with an arrow theme, which was easy to do and turned out really nice! I feel like I organized this month way better than previous ones, and I’ll be able to plan more efficiently, which is good because I definitely need my journal more during the school year than I do during the summer. I also find it easier to keep up with my trackers during this time, because I get back into a bit of a routine. So I felt a bit of pressure to create something awesome this month!! Let’s get into my spreads:

This is legit my favourite title page. I did the same thing that I did in August, with the word September on one page and a quote on the other. The arrows took a little while to draw, but it was fun and worth it in the end! I think that it turned out great, and I’m happy with my colour scheme of brown and black. When you’re drawing things like this it really helps if you have lines to guide you, and this is why I like dotted journals.

Here’s my calendar, which is a bit different from my August one. Instead of drawing individual boxes, I drew one big box and split it up into 30 squares. Plus, I didn’t make any mistakes and actually started it on a Monday, which is nice! At the bottom there’s a space for my school schedule, which will come in handy in class;) I also included a quote and a spot for my monthly goals in this spread.

These pages changed a lot compared to last month. I got a little crazy with the amount of pages I used in August, so I had to cut down a little bit this month! So here I squeezed in a habit tracker, mood tracker, blog planner (or any kind of planner you want it to be;)) and my gratitude log. I actually switched to an individual habit tracker from the grid style one, so we’ll see how that goes. I just colour a number if I did a particular habit that day instead of colouring in a square. My mood tracker pretty much stayed the same, except I’ll outline an arrow in various colours referring to the little chart near the bottom, instead of watermelons. All in all, these are some of my favourite trackers that I’ve done!

And here we have my weekly spread, which I have fallen in love with. I feel like my calligraphy is improving, and it really shows in this spread. I kept these pages kind of simple, and included a quote, word of the week, and spots where I can write down school tasks and whatever is coming up next week. I continued my arrow theme and colour scheme throughout this month. I love this spread so much because it’s practical yet pretty, and also, I just love it.;)

So yeah. If you couldn’t tell, I’m obsessed with this month’s spreads. I hope you find some inspiration in this post and create a beautiful, efficient lay-out for September!
