2020 Reading Challenge

Hi guys! Hope your week is going well- mine feels really long but I guess that’s to be expected of the first week back. So far I’ve been sticking to my resolution of making my lunch the night before, so that’s made it a bit easier.

A new year is upon us, and that means that there are so many more new books to read! But, if you’re like me, it can be hard to branch out and read different genres and types of books. So this year I decided to set a Reading challenge for myself. There are twenty requirements for the books I need to read this year, which I have outlined in my bullet journal. Once I fulfill one of these requirements I’ll write down which book I read to meet it underneath. These are things like “written in the 1920s”, or “about food”.

I think that this will be a really fun and interesting way to challenge myself to read different kinds of books this year! Down below I have the full challenge.

2020 Reading Challenge

Read at least one book that….

  • Was written in the 1920s
  • Was released in 2020
  • Has less than 200 pages
  • Takes place during a war
  • Has a colour in the title
  • Has been banned previously
  • Was written by an author in their 20s
  • Has 20 or “twenty” in the title
  • Is set in Asia
  • Is becoming a movie in 2020
  • Has more than 500 pages
  • Is translated from another language
  • Was published in your birth year
  • Has more than 20 letters in the title
  • Has a bird on the cover
  • Is about food
  • Is about philosophy
  • Was written by a Canadian author
  • Was written by an author who has written more than 20 books
  • Is non-fiction

There’s the list! I recommend that you write it down somewhere and fill in the book you read to complete each item, so that you can look back on it at the end of the year.

See you with another recipe on Friday!

My Fall Reading List

Hello;)) As the weather starts getting cooler, I’m sure that we’re all feeling more inclined to snuggle under a pile of blankets and pick up a good book. I don’t know which I like better- reading while sun tanning or reading next to a fire while it’s raining outside? Today I have the list of three books that I’d like to read this fall. Sadly with school starting I find that I only have time to read before bed, but hopefully these are the kind of books that make you put everything else aside in order to devour them. I hope that this list give you a little bit of reading inspiration;)

My Fall Reading List

Five Dark Fates

This is the last book in the Three Dark Queens series, which I started reading a little while ago. The first book centers around triplets who must fight to the death in order to claim the throne. It’s a pretty good series if you’re into fantasy books and political scheming, and I’m excited to finish it off.

House of Salt and Sorrows

This novel is a play on The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but with a dark twist. Annaleigh lives with her father, stepmother, and eleven sisters. When four of her sisters die due to tragic accidents, she starts trying to unravel the “curse” that has fallen on her family. The other girls have been sneaking off every night to dance at fancy balls, and she doesn’t know whether that has a connection to the deaths. This book has great reviews and I hope that it’s a winner.

The Book Thief

I’m excited to read this one because I think that it’s a classic. During WWII, a girl named Liesel is taken in by a foster family and soon falls in love with reading. She begins saving books from Nazi book-burnings, and, when her family shelters a Jew, sharing them with him. This should be both an intense and interesting read.

So yeah, I’m going to break out my Chapter’s gift cards and start crushing these novels! Hope you had a good weekend and I’ll see you Wednesday.

My Back-to-School Shopping List

Hi! School is finally upon us, which means that it’s time to start making lunches again. Today I’ve comprised a list of food items that I like to have on hand during the school year to make feeding myself a little easier. I use most of the things on this list on a weekly basis, if not every day, and lots of them are in the recipes on my blog. If you want to start eating a little healthier, it really helps to have some healthy ingredients in your house so that you can actually make healthy food. Here’s my list!

  • A LOT of fruit and veggies
  • Avocados
  • Greek yogurt
  • Natural Peanut Butter
  • Hummus
  • Whole grain pitas or tortillas
  • Chickpeas
  • Black Beans
  • Quinoa
  • Oatmeal
  • Lentils
  • Chickpea Pasta
  • Whole grain crackers
  • Sprouted Grain Bread
  • Organic Canned Soup (this comes in handy on days when I sleep in!)
  • Oil and vinegar (for salad dressings)
  • Healthy muffins

I know that that might sound like a lot of stuff, but you don’t need all of it to make a healthy lunch. The most important thing to me on that list is fruit and vegetables, because they’re a super quick snack and are healthy and delicious. If you don’t like the taste of veggies on their own, try dipping them in hummus or another dip. Starting tomorrow I’ll be posting my lunches on my Instagram story every day, so be sure to check that out! Have a great first week back to school, see you Wednesday;)

My Food Bucket List

Hi peoples! I got an idea from a friend to post my food bucket list. Thanks friend! This is a list of the dishes that I’d like to make, whether they be from other blogs or whether I want to come up with the recipe myself. Cooking is a big part of my life, and I use it as a way to relax and as an outlet for creativity. I love to try out new recipes and to experiment with different ingredients. Two people that I draw inspiration from are Ella Mills, who runs deliciouslyella.com, and Angela Liddon, who runs ohsheglows.com. They both have amazing recipes, and so lots of the recipes on this list are from them:) The food that is from other blogs will have a link posted next to it, and if there’s no link then that means I’d like to come up with my own recipe. Who knows, maybe I’ll post some of these on my blog someday! Here’s my list;)

Hope there’s a little inspiration for you;) Have a great weekend and see you Monday!
