12 Days of Awesome Ways to Be Healthier- Day 9!

Hey! Today is Day 9 and I have yet another great tip for you guys! I’m going to jump right into it so I have time to post my quinoa recipe today as well.

Exercise Every Day.

Super duper important! Physical activity is essential to a healthy body and a sound mind.   When you are active, chemicals are released in your brain that make you happier! I’ve actually experienced this many times. Exercise is also key for your body, obviously. It is great for your heart and your muscles (depending on what you’re exercising). Making time to be physically active every day is a big part of leading a healthy lifestyle.

There’s Day 9! My recipe for Quinoa Salad is coming right up, so don’t go anywhere!

Quinoa Salad

This Quinoa Salad is great for school lunches if you make it the night before! It’s bright, flavourful,  and bursting with veggies. For protein, you can add in any kind of meat that you want! best of all, it’s super easy. So, before you start drooling all over your screen, let me get into the recipe.;))

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup quinoa
  • 1/2 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/2 cup diced peppers
  • 1 sprig of green onion
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 teaspoon cilantro
  • The juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • Protein of your choice

 

Directions:

Follow the cooking instructions on the package of your quinoa. Once you’re done, it should look something like this:

Looks super appetizing, right? Don’t worry, once you add all of the veggies and herbs, it looks way better. While the quinoa is cooling down, dice your pepper, cucumber and green onion into mid-sized pieces and cut your lemon in half, like this:

Now take your quinoa and add the cilantro, dill, and parsley to it, followed by the veggies. Finally, squeeze the lemon juice into the salad. Store this in a container in the fridge and enjoy it for lunch the next day!

As for protein, you can really add anything you want. I usually put hemp seeds in mine, but chicken would go great as well.

12 Days of Awesome Ways to Be Healthier-Day 8

Only 6 days until the 25th!! I can’t contain myself!! Although, as the days are winding down I’m sad that the 12 Days of Awesome Ways to Be Healthier are coming to a close:((. But don’t you worry! There are still 4 days left! Day 8s tip is down below.

Practice Yoga.

Yoga is good for a lot of things, including flexibility and balance. It’s also a great way to start the day. I joined a yoga club, and each Wednesday we practice yoga in the morning before school. Going through the different poses allows me to meditate and focus on what I want my day to look like. Try yoga in the mornings to energize and prepare you for the day ahead!!

I definitely recommend that you try yoga. It’s good for you and fun at the same time! Come back here tomorrow for Day 9 and my quinoa salad recipe. See you later!

12 Days of Awesome Ways to Be Healthier- Days 6 and 7

Hi peoples! I’m super sorry that I couldn’t post yesterday!! I had volleyball practice and was busy making quinoa for my lunch today- I’m going to share the recipe with you soon:). Anyways, today I’ll combine posts so you don’t miss any tips. Here you go!

Put Fruit In Your Water.

This goes along with drinking more water. Putting fruit in your water is a good way to get more vitamins in your body throughout today. Also, it tastes better!!! And when it tastes better, you drink more. Berries, citrus, apples and mint are all good things to throw in your H2O.

Get More Sleep.

Sleep is so important!!! In order to function, we need a good amount of rest each night. I definitely notice that when I don’t get at least a solid 9hrs of sleep, I get grumpy and feel a bit out of it all day. Sleepfoundation.org suggests that teens need about 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Are you getting that amount? Getting more sleep will help you to do better in school, sports, and your life in general.

12 Days of Awesome Ways to Be Healthier- Day 5

10 Days left until Christmas!!! I can’t wait!! In the meantime, here is the fifth day of twelve!!

Drink More Water.

This is something I need to start doing!!! I went to a nutrition session with my volleyball team last year, and I learned that you should drink 3-4 litres of water a day, and another litre for each hour of physical activity you do. I definitely don’t drink that amount!!! Water is important because it flushes toxins from you’re body and obviously keeps you hydrated. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. So drink more of the stuff!
